"It is not the strongest of the species, nor the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is most adaptable to change." DARWIN
Although we are feeling completely distraught after the heavyweight bad news on Saturday there is no time to waste.
- Saturday was spent on the phone;
- Sunday was spent feeling depressed;
- Monday was spent on the phone from 8am until 6pm non stop! Complained to our Bank to about 10 different people because no-one seems to be efficient enough to tell us the same thing. Is being dumb a marketing technique? No-one felt responsible for not telling us from the outset that no high street banks would lend money to buy a flat above a café. Not the Bank, not the Estate Agent and not the Solicitor. #INCREDIBLE!!! What is not understandable or acceptable is that we had to spend money and waste precious time because no-one was qualified to give us the right information upfront. After literally hours on the phone to various people the bank finally accepted that it is their mistake, that they shouldn't have advised us to do the mortgage over the phone, and that a local branch would have advised us better, and that we wouldn't be in this situation. Note to self: local is better. Our local branch confirmed that they would have told us that it is impossible to get a mortgage above a café as it is a criteria from the Bank. We also contacted brokers to find out other solutions and options. Finally, we looked at dozens of properties for sale and booked 7 viewings for Tuesday.
- Tuesday was spent cycling across Brighton and Hove to view 7 properties and of course we spent more time on the phone. We laid out all our options and listed the pros and cons for each option. Still very confused on what to do. The big problem is that choice AND time are limited.
