Great photos can be found anywhere - and they all come to exist because of something that we find interesting in the first place.
I took this photograph on a ferry to Rome after a holiday in Sardinia. A night in a ferry is a great way to travel! It's different, you pay for your means of travel but also for a night in a cabin, and when you wake up in the morning you are in a different place.
When I reached the deck it was still daylight but a few minutes later when the ferry departed it was sunset. I went to get my camera in the cabin - no, I don't always carry my equipment.
There is a nice mood in this photograph due to the overall cool hue throughout the image that is attractive to the eyes, but also the complementary red and yellow tones add interest with splashes of bright colours here and there.
There are circular shapes on the floor and a diagonal line in the hanging lights that lead our eyes around the main subject of the photograph. The last colours of the sunset on the right hand side also create a diagonal line pointing towards the red chimneys. The red is also repeated and marks the spot for a helicopter on the floor of the deck.
When making a photo you want to lead your viewer's eyes around the different parts of an image and keep them going around in circle again and again.
