I had heard about it. Now I saw it. When it comes to nudity the Danes are quite laid back. And frankly it is nice to see!
Danish people are known to live their life the way they want it, whether you like it or not. For that reason they are very straight forward and at times appear rude to strangers.
But while walking along Bellevue Beach last Sunday morning - remember it is still winter - we saw about 6 people who at some point took their winter coats and other clothes off to go for a brief refreshing swim in the sea. One of them was an older man, probably in his early 70s, who came out of the sea stark naked, put a towel around his waist and started doing laps around the beach. Bravo!
The guy from the photos above was just walking nonchalantly with his girlfriend, went to the end of the pier, got undressed, swam for about 10 seconds, got out, dried himself and resumed his Sunday walk. Brilliant.
Very inspiring. So much so that Ollie said he would do it, one day!
Note: The photos were taken in a public location and no-one is recognisable.
Where is Bellevue Beach in Copenhagen?
And if you are interesting in winter swimming here is a video I found on Youtube:
And here is a beautiful video (time-lapse) of Copenhagen in the winter, also found on Youtube. Photographs by Esben Zøllner Olesen:
